Job Description
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will join our Brentwood team to support our activities within the marine, industrial, and automotive engineering sectors.
You will lead the design and development of innovative engineering solutions supporting alternative power and fuel system integration. Working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through manufacture, testing, and deployment, you will collaborate with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and certification bodies to deliver safe, practical, and high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
- Generate innovative engineering designs using proven technologies alongside creative problem-solving approaches
- Lead mechanical design activities from concept development through detailed design and production
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the design process
- Collaborate with CAE engineers to meet structural, vibration, and fluid flow performance requirements
- Produce design reports and deliver technical presentations to senior stakeholders
- Ensure CAD designs are structured and released in line with Bill of Materials (BoM) requirements
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Principal Engineers to achieve project objectives, schedules, and cost targets
- Support the continuous improvement of engineering design processes, standards, and methodologies
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the design team
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering and regulatory standards throughout the product lifecycle
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Strong mechanical design engineering experience across complex engineering products
- Experience delivering projects from concept through manufacture and deployment
- Proficiency in CAD design tools, ideally CATIA V5 and/or 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Ability to interpret and work with P&ID drawings
- Knowledge of structural and vibration analysis principles
- Understanding of electrical cable routing and management techniques
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- 10–15 years of mechanical design engineering experience
- Experience working to international engineering and regulatory standards
- Demonstrable experience leading engineering design activities and supporting product development programmes
Desirable Skills:
- Experience across multiple sectors such as automotive, marine, industrial, or alternative energy
- Experience integrating alternative fuel or propulsion systems
- Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience
- Familiarity with low-carbon technologies and sustainable engineering solutions
- Experience working with certification bodies and regulatory stakeholders
