Principal Product Designer (German-speaking) — Core Experience, Europe (Remote)

Job description

Finom is looking for a Principal Product Designer to set the design direction for Core Experience — the foundational product surface used across our platform by every customer. This is a senior individual-contributor role: no direct reports, but real scope to define what "good" looks like and prove it in shipped product. You'll work alongside Product Managers, Engineers, Analysts, and Research to turn complex financial workflows into experiences that are simple, accessible, and consistent at scale.

What You’ll Do

• Own design across the full product lifecycle, from discovery and problem framing to final implementation, QA, and polish.
• Turn complex fintech and SMB workflows into clear, user-centered experiences, using research, product data, and customer feedback to guide decisions.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Analysts, and fellow Designers to scope work, define outcomes, and ship high-quality solutions.
• Create essential design artifacts including flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and clear product specs.
• Contribute to our design system and product quality bar, improving consistency, accessibility, scalability, and craft across the interface.
• Support high-priority initiatives such as modular pricing, onboarding UX transformation, and AI Copilot features.

Who You Are

• 5+ years of experience in product design, ideally in fintech, SaaS, or complex digital product environments.
• Formal education in design — such as Product Design, Interaction Design, UX/UI, Visual Communication, HCI, or a related field.
• A strong portfolio showing user-centered thinking, strong interaction and visual design craft, and polished execution.
• Experience designing complex platforms with multiple user flows, states, permissions, edge cases, and dependencies
• Hands-on experience designing native mobile app products (iOS/Android), you should be comfortable with mobile-specific interaction patterns and constraints (touch, limited screen space, performance, offline states)
• Confidence working in cross-functional squads and explaining design decisions using research, product data, business context, and customer feedback.
• Strong English communication skills; German language skills or experience designing for German-speaking users are highly valued.
• AI-native mindset: you actively use AI tools for exploration, synthesis, prototyping, critique, documentation, and faster iteration.

• Step 3: Take-Home Assignment — A practical Finom product case study (3–5 days turnaround) evaluated for strategic thinking, user insights, and design execution.
• Step 4: Live Presentation & Cross-Functional Interview — A full walkthrough and Q&A with design and product leads.
