Job description
As Manager, Sensor Integration/Cleaning HW, you will lead a team responsible for ensuring Zoox vehicles can operate safely and reliably in real-world environments. You will manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers designing, integrating, validating, and launching sensor assemblies and sensor cleaning systems that maintain the performance of our autonomy sensors across a wide range of environmental conditions. You will drive your team's engineering solutions and program execution to ensure sensors remain within operational specifications, minimize contamination-related failures, optimize for supply chain and volume manufacturing, improve vehicle availability and serviceability, and support the scalable deployment of Zoox autonomous vehicles.
In This Role, You Will
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers developing sensor assemblies and sensor cleaning systems for Zoox's autonomous vehicle fleet.
- Own program delivery for sensor integration and sensor cleaning hardware, from concept through validation, launch, and fleet support.
- Set technical direction and review key design decisions across mechanical packaging, electrical integration, and system-level architecture for sensor and cleaning subsystems.
- Partner with sensor performance, perception, test, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Manage program scope, schedule, and resourcing across multiple concurrent sensor integration and cleaning projects.
- Drive cross-functional design reviews, DFMEA/PFMEA processes, and validation planning to de-risk programs ahead of production.
- Represent the team in front of engineering leadership, communicating program status, technical tradeoffs, and risks.
- Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent, and build a strong culture of technical rigor and ownership within the team.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of engineering experience in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, with prior experience in sensor systems, sensor cleaning, exteriors or closures.
- 3+ years of experience directly managing engineers, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional hardware programs from concept through production, including specification authoring, supplier selection, DFMEA, DV/PV testing, and manufacturing readiness.
- Strong technical fluency across mechanical design (CAD, tolerance stack-up, fluid/pneumatic systems) and electrical integration (sensor interfaces, wiring/harness design, controls).
- Experience managing program scope, budget, and schedule across multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with experience presenting technical tradeoffs and program status to engineering leadership.
Bonus Qualifications
- Direct experience with camera, lidar, or radar sensor systems and their environmental/contamination challenges.
- Experience with fluid or airflow simulation (CFD) for cleaning system design.
- Background in autonomous vehicle or ADAS hardware programs.
- Experience scaling a team through rapid program growth or a transition from prototype to production.
